On February 9, 2007, GSI hosted a consultation in its New York office, entitled “Advancing Cooperative Security in Space.” Over 25 nations participated in this first of a series of such consultations, which facilitate discussion amongst interested governments and experts on advancing a cooperative regime in outer space and preventing a celestial arms race.

New Zealand Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, addressing an international of parliamentarians in New Zealand organized by the Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament, called on parliamentarians globally to act more vigorously to achieve a nuclear weapons free world, and highlighted the special responsibility of Nuclear Weapon States to take the lead in the abolition and elimination of nuclear weapons.

On May 3 and 4, 2007, a delegation comprised of Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr., Chairman of the Bipartisan Security Group, Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute, and Dr. Hans Blix, Chairman of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, advocated timely policies on international security in the US Congress and to the International Law Section of the American Bar Association.
The Middle Powers Initiative will submit the paper, "Towards 2010: Priorities for NPT Consensus"as a contribution to the 2007 Preparatory Committee meeting of the NPT.
It is based on four meetings of the Article VI Forum, and specifies areas where progress can be made on a consensus basis.

The next meeting of the Article VI Forum will be held in Vienna, March 29-30.
On September 26, 2006, BSG Chairman Ambassador Thomas Graham and GSI President Jonathan Granoff testified at a Congressional Hearing on Weapons of Mass Destruction: Current Nuclear Proliferation Challenges, which was convened by the US House of Representatives Government Reform Committee, Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations.
Dr. Hans Blix, Henry Sokolski, Dr. Frank von Hippel, and representatives of the Administration, also testified.

During June 2006, GSI helped organize a high-level panel event featuring Dr. Hans Blix, Chairman of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission (WMDC), at the National Constitution Center. In addition, GSI helped facilitate meetings for Dr. Blix with members of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the House Bipartisan Task Force on Non-Proliferation.

On June 12-13, 2006, the Middle Powers Initiative successfully sent its fifth high-level delegation to the government of Canada since 1998. The delegation was led by Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell, former Prime Minister of Canada and included MPI Chairman Hon. Douglas Roche, O.C., Bipartisan Security Group Chairman Ambassador Thomas Graham, and Global Security Institute President Jonathan Granoff.
Members of the delegation met with the Prime Minister, the Deputy Foreign Minister, the National Defence Minister, and also gave a formal testimony before the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee.

On March 2-3, 2006 the Middle Powers Initiative hosted the second meeting of the Article VI Forum in The Hague. A gathering of high-level representatives from 21 states examined ways to reinforce and revitalize the international commitments to nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament as embodied in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The conference, co-hosted by the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, 'Clingendael,' was entitled, Securing the Future: Strengthening the NPT.

On February 9, 2006, GSI President Jonathan Granoff and Dr. Randall Forsberg, Director of the Institute for Defense & Disarmament Studies (below), addressed the United Nations Secretary General's Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters.
The Board advises the Secretary-General on matters within the areas of disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation.
